SASSA applicants are required to pass all 3 stages below in the application process in order to get approved for payments. Should you fail at any stage at all you will not get approved. Pay close attention to these stages and make sure that you meet them.
Stage 1: Requirements to apply for R350. They are that you need to be a person of insufficient means, a South African citizen staying in the country, registered on the Department of Home Affairs database with a smart id card number, between the ages of 18 and 60, and not a resident in a government-funded or subsidised institution and finally not unreasonably refuse to accept employment or educational opportunities.
Stage 2: Validation of Insufficient means. This stage is where you are asked certain questions by the agency that you have to answer correctly. If your answers are wrong then you will be disapproved. Some of the questions asked are your surname, name, id number, cellphone number, employment history (when last you had a job) and others. This helps them determine if you have been receiving some income and how much.
Stage 3: Verification of Insufficient means. This is where the information you have provided is verified to know if you qualify to be approved. Checks against databases that may indicate income or alternative financial assistance; and verification of insufficient means with banks. Here your bank balance is checked to make sure it meets the income threshold. The current threshold is set at R350. All bank accounts must have a balance below R350.
A person is not entitled to a social grant for himself or herself and Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress simultaneously. If a person has received both the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress and a social grant for himself or herself for the same period, the value paid for the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress must be recovered from any payment from a social grant t, including an arrear payment.
The amount of social relief of distress paid to a person or a representative of a household affected by a disaster in terms of regulation 9(5) of the 2008 Regulations, may not be recovered from the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress. The Agency may determine the most suitable method for disbursing the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress and may amend such method from time to time, as required.
All payments in terms of this regulation are subject to available funds for the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress and the Agency may limit disbursements when funds are depleted.
Question: What checks are done on my submitted application before approval or rejection?
Answer: Your bio data submitted is run through a test. This test is called the verification of insufficient means. Once you fail this test you are disapproved and the reason for failing this test is given to you in your application status. This test consists of checks against databases that may indicate income or alternative financial assistance; and verification of insufficient means with banks. Here your bank balance is checked to make sure it meets the income threshold. The current threshold is set at R350. All bank accounts must have a balance below R350.
