The Social Security Agency says payments for the new cycle of the special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grants (SRD) R350 grant begins. On Monday, SASSA said it will continue clearing outstanding payments from the previous cycle as and when the bank details are confirmed.
“The payments will not be done together but will be done monthly. More than one payment may be made in a month, but no one will receive double payments in amount,” the agency said. SASSA said it will do these multiple payments in a month until the backlog has been finalised, where monthly payments will resume.
Briefing media after Cabinet’s meeting last week, Minister in the Presidency, Mondli Gungubele, reiterated the government’s commitment to pay out the R350 SRD grant to beneficiaries. This came after the media reported that some grant beneficiaries had not received payments for up to three months.
“This government will always fulfil whatever undertaking it has [with regards to the SRD]. If there was a period of non-payment… on behalf of this government, we will make that apology. “But as long as those SRDs are due, in line with the President’s commitment, they will be paid,” Gungubele said
These requirements are easily summarized as having no other source of income and receiving no government assistance from any other agency such as nsfas, uif or salary. Should your tax documents be checked, Sassa should not find that you are employed or were recently employed.
Those who were disapproved in the previous sessions (2020/2021) are to go to those reasons and make sure that they clear all those reasons to improve their chances of approval. After going through all these, then you apply. After applying you need to check your status until you find out you have been approved. There are several ways that you can check your application status even though the moya app, the srd website and the govchat portal.

There are 6 possible statuses of your application that can show up. For each one will require you to take different actions. These statuses are the same irrespective of where you check it from. Although it is widely and strongly recommended that you check directly from the website of the agency.
These are application complete, bank details pending, reapplication pending, October (or any month you applied in) pending, October approved, and October declined. Application Complete means that the applicant completed their application process successfully and was approved. Here they are now to wait to be verified to check if they continuously meet the requirement to be paid.
This verification will be done each month till march of 2022. Meanwhile, the applicant should just continue to check their payment status each month to be sure that they have passed the verification checks.
The next one is the bank details pending. This one means although the agency approved your application, they did not find any bank payment details for your details through which they will send your r350 amount. Due to this, you are to go to the srd website and enter your bank details there. Follow our page on how to enter your bank details for a complete guide.
Another status is the reapplication pending. For this, the agency sees that you have been disapproved but you have opted to reapply. However, they have not received any application from you. This status also shows to those who did not complete their application and so did not submit for consideration and approval or rejection. The solution is to just reapply.
Then there are the payment statuses that indicate if you will receive the money or not. Its advised that after you have gone through the updating bank information, only then should you begin to check the payment status. Follow our status check for r350 payment dates on the payment statuses for what they mean and as such what you should do when you see any of them.
