My application was declined last time I applied for the R350 grant. Should I submit my application again to SASSA for reconsideration or re-apply? If you have applied already and have been disapproved since it was reopened in April 2022 then yes you should appeal and reapply to the agency for reconsideration.
How do I apply for the r350 grant online? They have over the past few months improved the way they receive applications from interested applicants for their r350 grants. These have led them to expand the channels available to use to apply. Currently, you can apply for it using the srd website, whatsapp, govchat or their chatbot services.
In the first instance of using the srd website, you first need to visit them at their URL. Take note that currently, it’s a data-free site. This means that visiting the website will not cost you any data. While on the website, go to the section about how to apply and begin.
You will be required to enter your mobile phone number. Check to make sure that this number is correctly entered and that it hasn’t been used for an application already. This number will be used by the agency to communicate your progress. After entering your number, select to send SMS.
A six-digit number will be sent to the phone number you entered. This is a one time pin. It’s only valid for a certain period of time. Enter the OTP into the field given to you on the website and select to verify the pin.
A new page will be loaded unto your screen. Choose to agree to the terms and conditions provided. These include the ‘You and Your Covid document’ and the ‘ declaration and consent form’. Subsequently, fill out the form given to you online and ensure that you enter your right names exactly as-is on your identity card, your personal details like your address, gender, parents’ name etc.
The whatsapp platform is also another way to apply. First, you need to send a message to their contact number on the platform. Then you provide your personal details as prompted by the chat. They will then send you a reference number, a one time pin (OTP) and the srd website link to select and follow to enter the OTP.
After entering the OTP, you should then verify the pin. Then from here, you provide your surname and id number and your personal details too. These details you enter should be the same as the one you entered at the beginning of the whatsapp chat. If it’s different then you will not be able to proceed to the next step.
After these, you agree to the terms and conditions here too. You can also use the chatbot available on their main website to also apply. However, you should note that the chatbot will only provide you with a link to the srd website for which you should follow through and complete your application there.
Important Notice: Remember to check if your application is still in the system by going to the srd website and then to the tab about ‘How do I confirm that I still qualify for, and need this SRD Grant?’. Select to confirm your existing application. If it shows you that you don’t have any application in the system then you should apply otherwise just consider doing an appeal.
Sassa social grants such as child grants, old person grants and disability grants are also available for you to apply online for them if you qualify. Online applications for old age, disability grants and child support grants can be done through the website. They require you to register on the sassa website for an account and then use the login details sent to you to log in to begin the application process. It’s quick and requires you to upload all your documents there on that account.
You can track your application status from the same account. Just follow the link to the services sassa website and begin by selecting to apply from the right-hand menu for computers or PC or Mac users. Android Phone and iPhone users would also find in the same left location. They may need to zoom in to better see and read from the screen.
