SASSA R350 is a grant the agency gives to assist the less fortunate citizens in South Africa. Currently, more than 10 million people applied for the srd grant. The srd grant has qualification requirements that must be met before SASSA approves the applicant. Those who do not meet the requirement are rejected.
One of the reasons for rejections is the Income threshold. Many people find that they are rejected for this reason and for this they are not able to receive the R350 payment into their account. The income threshold is the income level for which if the person earns that, they will qualify for getting approved for the R350 payment.
If you find that you have been rejected for this reason, this means that SASSA found after their investigations on how much you earn that you receive an income more than the level they have set. Currently, this level has been set to R350 per month as per the regulations regarding the payment of srd.
Another reason to be declined is Alternative Income Source. What does declined for Alternative Income Source Identified mean if My srd application has been declined by Sassa due to ‘Alternative Income Source Identified’. Well, this srd status on your dashboard means that Sassa thinks and believes that you have a job and have been paying income tax.
What makes them think this alternative_income_source_identified status is true? When you apply for the srd grant, through the srd.sassa.gov.za website portal you also include your South African ID number. This ID number is linked to your tax number from SARS and all your bank accounts. This is linked because this is the same ID number you submitted for those. So when you apply, SASSA uses your ID number provided to go check all this information.
If when they check with SARS, they realise that income tax was paid on your behalf in the month before you applied and the month you applied, that will indicate to them that you have a job and so are employed. The minimum wage in South Africa to pay tax on is R350. So once income tax has been paid to SARS for you it shows you are employed.
They also check your bank accounts to see if you have received inflows of R595 being paid consecutively into a single account month on month, they will decline your application for R350 grant and so you get no srd payments. They will offer you the reason as alternative_income_source_identified.
Question: What checks are done on my submitted application before approval or rejection?
Answer: Your bio data submitted is run through a test. This test is called the verification of insufficient means. Once you fail this test you are disapproved and the reason for failing this test is given to you in your application status. This test consists of checks against databases that may indicate income or alternative financial assistance; and verification of insufficient means with banks. Here your bank balance is checked to make sure it meets the income threshold. The current threshold is set at R350. All bank accounts must have a balance below R350.
