I made an application for the Special Covid19 SRD Grant and I have not received feedback from SASSA, any advice? Please note that they are experiencing high application volumes. Many people also apply more than once or apply on all the channels.
This delays the process as they have to verify all applications and ensure that there are no duplicates. In the end SASSA will only consider one application per applicant. Once the application has been considered, a SMS message will be send to all considered applicants. Every applicant will be advised about the outcome of their submissions afterwards.

Submission of an application is not approval. Not all applications will be approved. Every application will be tested for availability of means or income. Those applications which pass the mean test and related verifications shall be approved. It should also be noted that payment is subject to availability of funds
I received a SMS from SASSA to upload my banking details but no money has been received?
Once we have obtained your banking details we should be able to pay you either through your bank account if you have one or through a cash transfer option
Can one use another person’s bank account?
To avoid any possible fraudulent activities this is not allowed. Use your own bank account or cellphone number.
Can one use another person’s cell phone number to make an application?
No, applications will mainly be processed on the Identity number of the applicant. The cell phone number provided will be the one to which messages are sent for that applicant. The cellphone number to receive money must have been registered in the names of the applicant.

When I apply through the WhatsApp and Website channels, do I need to upload any documents or
attachments such as ID copy, proof of residence etc. SASSA does not require any documents / attachments to be uploaded. SASSA shall conduct online verification of personal information supplied through other alternative electronic means of data validation and verification. No physical documents are required.
If I do not give consent about my information being verified with either SARS and other financial institutions, what will happen to my application If you do not give consent for information verification with other organisations for purposes of SASSA making a decision on your application, SASSA will unfortunately not be in a position to accept your application. You cannot submit your application if no consent for information verification is provided.
If I applied using USSD Channel , is there a problem if I submit a second application through the website channel Multiple applications through different channels are discouraged at all times. SASSA will consider one application only per applicant.
If one has successfully completed the application in any channel, what should one get?
Reference number at the end of the application but your ID number remains acceptable to make enquiries and follow-ups
Should we re-apply because we have not received feedback from our previous applications submitted to SASSA?
It is not necessary, SASSA had some backlogs in application processing and verification. Once this process is completed, feedback shall be provided to all applicants who have been verified and submitted their full details to SASSA.
I don’t have a phone to make an application, how do I get hold of the volunteers?
Your nearest councillor or community worker can assist with locating and identifying the whereabouts of the nearest volunteers within your community to help you apply
Will the grant be paid to a sim card that is not RICA’d to my names?
The cellphone number must have been registered in your own name. Can I get paid via cash send if the cell phone is not mine? No, the cellphone number must be registered and belong to the applicant
If rejected, will I be notified with a reason for rejection?
A SMS indicating your application was declined and outlining the reason will be sent to the applicant through the cellphone number submitted to SASSA
If rejected, will I be given an opportunity to appeal?
Yes you can appeal. The appeal process has been decided and simplified through the dsd. Can all the unemployed adult members of my family apply using one address? Yes
I am over 60 years, can I also apply?
If you are over 60 years, you need to apply for an Old Age Grant. This Special Covid-19 SRD grant of R350 is not payable to people over the age of 60
Will I get paid in the anniversary of my first payment for the next months?
Not necessarily, the validations are done monthly, depending on whether the applicant still meets the criteria, the applicant will get paid again in the following month and not necessarily on the same day he / she was paid on the previous month.
If my application takes long to finalise will I receive double payment /backpaid?
If the applicant qualifies in that month of the application, he/she will be paid for that month, and also be paid for the current month if the applicant still meets the application criteria. The Payment may not necessarily be a double payment or lump sum payment, or on the same day either. It can be split up over days or weeks.
Where can I self-check my status for WhatsApp?
For WhatsApp applicants can send a message to 082 046 8553; type “SASSA” and then type “Status” and follow the message prompts.
Can I use another person’s account if I do not have a bank account neither a cell Phone?
SASSA will not pay into a 3rd party bank account. Where an applicant does not have a bank account, he/she must indicate from the drop down list the nearest bank through which they want to be paid. Money will therefore be paid
into the applicant’s cellphone number. Where an applicant does not have a bank account and does not have a cell phone registered in his/her name, the payment will be made through the post office.
If I applied in April 2021 and got approved, will I receive double payment in May 2021?
The Payment for April will be paid, and the application will be re-validated in May, and if the applicant still meets the criteria, the May payment will also be processed. These payment may not necessarily come in one lump-sum payment, or on the same day either.
